Darren's Story
Seven's wish to be a chef
Darren’s passion for serving his community is what initially inspired him to volunteer for Make-A-Wish. The joy and strength he witnesses in children when their wishes are granted is what keeps him coming back as a WishMaker.
Darren has seen even the simplest wishes bring the greatest joy to children with critical illnesses. “The smiles to their faces when a wish is delivered… it’s just everything,” Darren said.
As a WishMaker, Darren’s most important role is connecting with wish kids like Seven and their families, so they feel comfortable discovering and expressing their heartfelt wish.
My favorite part about what I do is working with the kids and figuring out what it is that’s going to make them really happy and bring them that joy that they need during the most difficult times.
Darren encourages everyone to get involved as a WishMaker however they can. “Being involved with Make-A-Wish is important to the community [because] it reinforces the need for all of us to be banded together, to raise each other up and help each other go through difficult times,” Darren said. “Whether you’re a volunteer, or you’re a donor, or whatever part you play, I think it’s important that each one of us plays a part in moving and lifting us all.”
If you’re unsure where to start, Darren ensures that “it’s very easy to get involved with Make-A-Wish. The organization gives us all the tools, tricks and tips we need [to grant wishes].”
You are essential to the Make-A-Wish mission. Become a WishMaker today and grant more life-changing wishes for children like Seven.
