Brian's Story
Seven's wish to be a chef
Brian’s dedication to making a difference in the lives of children with critical illnesses shines through his work as a volunteer wish granter. Over the years, he has granted around 14 wishes with Make-A-Wish, and “every time, it’s exciting.”
“As a wish granter, being able to give back to other kids who have experienced difficulties … [is] just an incredible experience,” Brian said. “To listen to them, hear their stories, and then do something wonderful for them … There’s nothing that we ask in return other than we just want you to forget about the hardships for a while and be a kid, have fun, dream big.”
Brian knows firsthand how transformative a wish can be, having experienced its lasting impact in his own medical journey during childhood and beyond.
The impact [of a wish] is long-lasting; I am proof of that.
As he credits his wish experience for influencing many of his most important life decisions, Brian wants others to understand just how important WishMakers are to children like Seven.
“Make-A-Wish really relies on the fundraising [and] the WishMakers who will come out and make things happen,” Brian said. “It’s nothing more than people in the community wanting to come out and do something wonderful.”
“Whatever time or capacity someone [has] to volunteer, there’s room for you to do so. It’s incredibly easy and flexible, but also incredibly impactful to volunteer,” he added.
As a father to an active 1-year-old, Brian has his hands full nowadays – but it doesn’t stop him from continuing his work as a WishMaker. Why? Brian’s answer is simple, and urgent: “There are so many kids out there who are still waiting [for a wish] and there will continue to be more.”
As long as children face devastating critical illnesses, they’ll be counting on WishMakers like you to create the hope and strength they need to fight. Become a WishMaker today.
