Amy Kay's Story
Florence's wish to have a play farmyard at school
Amy Kay never imagined that her passion for content creation could lead her to making a difference for children with critical illnesses. Known for her soothing ASMR videos on YouTube, she helps people relax, but when an opportunity arose to collaborate with Make-A-Wish, it felt like the right time to step beyond her usual work.
“It was kind of a no-brainer,” Amy Kay said. “I grew up hearing about Make-A-Wish, so when I was given this opportunity, I just kind of jumped on it because … any chance to make kids happy” is worth it.
Though she had never done a charity fundraiser before, Amy jumped in with enthusiasm, organizing two livestream events. “I was so nervous,” she admits, but she countered those jitters by making sure it felt like a celebration. “I had a backdrop where, for every donation, I’d write names or draw little pictures – just a visual of everything that we’ve done and built together.”
What surprised Amy the most was the overwhelming support from her audience. “I thought I’d have to build up the excitement myself, but from the start, everyone was so excited, joining in together, rooting for each other in the comments.”
Some even shared personal stories about how Make-A-Wish had impacted their lives or loved ones. These moments were deeply moving for Amy.
Hearing someone say, ‘I was a wish kid, and I’m doing well now’ – it gives you the full picture of, ‘it starts here, we’re here raising money.’ And then Make-A-Wish does their thing.
Amy reflects on the experience with joy and a full heart. “It’s made me realize how fun giving back can be. I can’t wait to do it again.” Her message to other content creators is simple: “Just jump in. You have a platform from which you can give back through your audience because you have that reach. You’ll be very surprised and find that it’s a lot more fun and rewarding than you might think. It’s way more than that.”
